About Us
The mission of Wake Teen Medical Services is: Empowering youth to lead healthy, responsible and productive lives by providing medical and mental health services to youth ages 10-23 and educating the community and those that work with youth about the special needs of this population.
Wake Teen Medical Services was established as a specialized medical practice in 1977 by Dr. Michael Durfee as well as a coalition of concerned community providers, parents, the Junior League of Raleigh and Wake Medical Center to provide age-appropriate comprehensive primary health services to teens in recognition that adolescents had unique medical and psychosocial needs that were not being met within the existing systems of care. Wake Teen Medical Services was incorporated five years later in 1983 as a not for profit, 501(c)(3) in order to seek funding to sustain it mission and expand its vision. |
